Liners, inserts, ash fingers, or crucibles typically all perform the same function; enabling the simple removal of residual ash, they can prolong the useful life of your combustion tube, and help ensure your sample is positioned at the correct height in the furnace. Given the comparative cost of combustion tubes and reagents, using an ash finger (which can be replaced whenever necessary) will ensure your laboratory gets as many analyses as possible from every tube.
